Do you see this handsome man? He's 30. Yes-siree, he hit the big one. He's officially a middle-aged man. And what did he want for his birthday? Steak, a cake from the grocery store, and baklava. All food.
So I called my Greek friend, Fotini, and got her Baklava recipe. It took me longer than I realized to make (it has to sit overnight; I didn't read ahead), so instead of having it on his birthday, Joe had it this morning for breakfast. Can I just say that it was the best Baklava I've ever had? And it really wasn't hard to make.
I do really love my husband. I feel awkward gushing here, but he is the best. He helps me in the middle of the night with whatever crying child (it varies), he frequently takes Dottie to school so I can sleep in, he does all of the jobs I hate doing (like the dishes), and he is still so very attractive to me. Woowoo.
So Joe, happy 30th. I hope I made all your wildest dreams come true.

WOW! I am soooooo impressed with your beautiful pan of baklava! I had been thinking of making some for the students in my honors class on Muslim women writers, but I was intimidated that it wouldn't turn out. Isn't it hard to work with phyllo leaf pastry? Anyway, you have inspired me to try it. And I would love to have your recipe. Thanks for going to such creative lengths to give our Joey a special birthday treat!!!

That LOOKS like good Bak! Bak is one of my most favorite desserts- I ask my mom to make it every year for Christmas but it doesn't always happen cause its expensive ANd I'm the only one who ever seems to enjoy it! You're looks soooo good! Bkery bought no matter WHERE you go is NEVER anywhere as good!
