Our new house has something our other house did not: locks on the doors. At first, I thought this was great; I could lock Elliot in his bedroom at naptime so he would actually take a nap. And that has helped me, I'll admit.
But then, Elliot discovered that he, too, can lock doors. He takes great joy in locking people (especially Dottie) in and out of places. I will often go upstairs to discover every room locked. Just now, he fell for his own trick. He locked himself out of the bathroom, and he couldn't get in. Maybe this is why he has been peeing his pants nonstop?
Dottie, for her own protection, has discovered various keys to get the doors unlocked. She first started with her hair clips. I thought, "Oh, this is good. Now when Elliot locks her in a room, she can get out." But she started giving him the keys, too. So I would put him down for a nap, and the next thing I know, he's out of his room. He now throws a fit if I put him down and he can't sleep with a "key."
Joe and I have since confiscated all hair clip keys. But my kids have gotten creative. They realized you can use kitchen knives as keys, pennies and keys, and the latest, craft sticks. So here they are, showing their keys:

Too bad your kids are so smart! You did have a month or so of sanity with locks on the doors!
Ha,Ha, Ha, Ha! Well, you might have some criminals on your hands. When we were young, we figured out to open our locks, too. We used bobby pins and hair clips. But only the truly talented only need their thumb. That was me!
Yes, your kids are DEFINITELY too smart for their own good.
